When the screenshot was first released, thats exactly what i suggested.
Infact i had suggested additionaly, that this could be a new map type. Something like the new AOK 'Seasons' map type. A 1 vs 1 map. Where the map is basically a large chunk of land mass, with one water body running through the middle, dividing into 2 territories(the flag on either side, mark that). The water body in the middle, probably a river, is crossable only at certain points, and the structure and strategy of these points changes over time:
1)Summer: you have the normal river flow, as shown in the screenshot. Thus Except over shallows, the water cannot be crossed over.Even in shallows, the unit speed will be reduced, due to waist high depth.(for a regular unit). Best to use 'Large Sized' and 'Ranged' units during this season, while invading the opponents territory.
2)Autumn: The Snow starts to fall, unit speed increases over shallows, as water depth will become knee high.
3)Winter: The entire river body freezez over, making it a massive 'Arabia' Style Land map, but obviously u cannot construct buildings over the 'ice area', that was previosly the river. Unit speed normal over frozen river areas.Best time to employ Siege and Wheeled units across the now frozen river.
4)Spring: The ice starts to melt away, leaving 'snow made' bridge kind of patches over the previously existing shallows, whereas the other parts of the river again become unpassable.
In terms of game time, the Autumn and Spring Seasons are basically transitional phases, the basic cycles are Summer and Winter. Two contrasting games over the two contrasting season, using these ideas. ofcourse this map can be extended to be a 4 player( 2 vs 2) map too, simply by divding the map into 4 sections rather than 2, via the river.Well thats my guess and suggestion. What do u guys think?
