In the current poll...
After patch 1.05, which god is the most powerful in the game?
Set is being voted the most but I havn't seen any increase in the number of Set players, in fact I've noticed that 3 in 4 people are Norse players!
So is it just me or are the number of Set players still not increasing?

i've seen the same thing, it is farily strange, becuase when norse was considered unbeatable everyone went to them. It could be that players think there is too much micro involved, or maybe set just needs more time for people to master it, i really dunno.:s

Set isnt strong on low ratings but on 1900+ ratings, he is total ownage. On 1800 ratings he is pretty good. On 1700-1800 ratings he is only good on savanah/watering holes. On below 1700 ratings he sucks.

Loki and odin on the other hand are pretty strong across all ratings. But Set is stronger than both of them on 1800+ ratings.

people say that but cant play him because they cant get use to the micro therefore he MUST be overpowered becuase he stops forward building.
Monkeys are abit strong and should have about -5% hack or -8 or something like that since they are hard for norse to counter.
Animals should just be reduced in archaic to about 2 attack like all other units but once classical comes they should be restored OR researching feral gives the bonus and the proper rate back.

I agree with NIB. Set requires more management and in the hands of a rook will do more harm than good, really. But I imagine those who have been on the receiving end of the a reasonable Set player may have more reason to vote for him, even if they can't play him themselves...

I think NIB has it right and that is why I don't think Set needs a nerf. ES caters to the minority already by patching the online game (most don't ever go online). But to change a civ so he is playable by the very few (how many real 1900+ people are there, smurf names not included) and make him less playable to the larger majority (1800 players and below) would be counterproductive to the game.

Just my opinion. I think that 1900+ players will be good enough to adapt to the times and learn to beat him.

Thats because any player below 1900 that plays set, sucks, and it actually does take skill to use set.

You should see all the set players in 1950+ range.

Caden, that is a rather stupid statement. If a civ is overpowered, that means it can't be countered or adapted to - period. That's the very definition of overpowered.

If Set *isn't* patched, then it will be impossible to play any civ except Set above 1900 - in fact, rendering the game unplayable if you are too good at it. In essence, you penalize ES's most addicted customers.

Second, there is another thing concerning balance - balance issues tend to manifest themself at the top first; however, after a while, they tend to spread downwards through the ratings - which means that if the 1900 level is dominated by Set today, then the 1800 level will be similarly dominated after a while, then 1700 after a longer period, etc - people tend to get better as the game matures, and competition hardens, thus the practice required to acquire a certain rating goes ever upwards.

Finally, Set isn't as micro-intensive as people here make it out to be - all it really requires is a basic knowledge of how waypoints work; however, I've seen that knowledge absent in even 1900+ level players.

The bottom line is - eventually, the knowledge of how to use the powered-up aspects of Set will trickle down through the ratings and be abused by everyone and their cat. Taking the attitude that "Set is only imbalanced for the elite players, and they are arrogant bastards who should shut up and let us newbs and inters play the game like it is" is viewing how games evolve through very rosy-tinted glasses.

Well for me I play SET only when I play rated.. i feel I have a better chance to win specially 1 vs 1 on rated. but for team games and advanced setup games I play all civs except set. Winning is easy when your good with Set. Having an army with no cost is huge bonus! :P
