I was just checking this out with SoM, what you need for each civ to kill 10 odin jarls!

10 jarls:
500 food
800 gold
30 pop
(1300 resources)


!!!!Norse!!!!
18 ulfsarks
900 food
540 gold
36 pop
(1440 resources)

!!!!greek!!!!
14 hoplites
840 food
490 gold
28 pop
(1330 resources)

OR

10 Prodromos
700 food
400 gold
30 pop
(1100 resources)


!!!!Egypt!!!!!

6 spearmen
300 food
120 gold
12 pop
(420 resources)

Well: This clearly shows ulfsarks need a boost!!! They loose pop AND resource effectively and they are the counters!
Hoplites loose resource effectively but win with pop! Whereas prodromos win with resources and even with pop.
And the spearmen must be a bug in SoM!!! It says in battle results it deal 75 damage, but its normal damage its only 12, so it is mulitplied with 6 $

testing in SoM will never be correct, since it assumes there's no pathing issues, and that there is always focusfire, etc. It'll be more accurate if you test it out in the editor instead.

And if you are Thor or Loki against Odin, you deserve to lose if you don't go Bragi and get Swine Array... if you're Odin, then YOU're the one with uber-jarls.

That's right. Gold is not as precious as food. Food is the second most precious resource after favor.

Well, true - food is the most *necessary* resource - you need it to make vills and advance, after all - however, favor is more *precious* in that it is harder to come by and rarer (essentially, it gathers a lot slower). Of course, in terms of necessity, food becomes more precious than favor.

My point was simply that food gathers slower than gold, hence gold is a more easily available and less 'precious' resource than gold, making gold units like cavalry the trash units of AoM, while infantry are overpriced expensive elite units...

Yea thats true. But if you are egyptian Gold is your most important Favor that comes like every second.

When you have a gold mine or you have trade going,gold is easy.
Food is not as easy as gold.
Food is the slowest resource to get in.
Any cavalry or anti cavalry will need food.
In the food/gold anti cavalry need more food than cavalry.
So for one player want to play cavalry,he mostly feel gold is short but for anti cavalry civ like egypt,food is always short.

you also have to remember that in late game food is very easy to come by, and while gold is too, food comes in faster when you have all farming upgrades (I could be wrong, but I think this is the case). So, from classical all the way to early mythic gold is more of a "trash" resource, but after that, food is definately easier to come by.

here is what i think most importand:

early game:

1 food
2 wood
3 gold
4 favor

early midgame:

1 wood
2 food
3 gold
4 favor

late midgame:

1 gold
2 favor
3 food
4 wood
(tough 3/4 might be visaversa depending on witch units your building)

late game:

1 gold
2 wood
3 favor
4 food

thats just my thought

Resources come easily in AOM. The most limited one is favor. I build MUs and research the techs so favor is quite important to me, and I find it very precious in Classical. I always want to have more anubites/ valkyries then.

Gold is not a problem: gold mining is fast and trading is popular and effective. (Importance: *)
Food becomes easier as farming techs are researched. (Importance: **)
Wood is a big problem to the Greeks. (Importance: Greeks *****/ Norse **/ Egyptians *)
Favor... the more the better. (Importance: ****)

Although most of your results are totally wrong I agree with you that cavalry, or atleast jarl, counters should be improved. I play Isis, and it really bothers me that I don't have anything to counter jarls effectivly with.

You also need to check Odin jarls *with* their myth techs. This is what the general consensus, including ES, considers overpowered. Also, the resources have different worths, as indicated in the above replies. A more accurate method is using villager seconds. Even then, favor is hard to quantify in any meaningful way.
