i know this is just the first day and all... but anyone else tired of saying "mythology" over and over again in their heads? think about it... four syllables (myth-o-lo-gy or however it would be broken up vs the shorter words of "empires" and "kings" not counting xpacs... i still called them by the originals name

I think the name Age of Mythology was chosen over Age of Myths to avoid confusion with the game Myth by Bungie.

actually, ES registered ageofmyth.net ... so it's possible that it gets shortened in common-day conversation

Could've been AGe of Legends but that's too much like AOL .

So, does this mean that they got Microsoft to publish this one as well? I thought I remembered something being mentioned in an "Ask Sandy" thread (but possibly somewhere else) that MS had the rights to the whole "Age of ..." thing.

I think I remember about the "age of..." statement, that MS had the rights to the actual Age of Kings series, not the words, "Age of". Could be wrong, but it seems unlikely that MS, even as big as they are, can copyright words like that. OTOH, their lawyers are bigger than my lawyers, so I wouldn't risk it. ES has done their homework, though, I'd bet. And Age of Mythology may not even be the main title of the game. It could just as well be, "Centaurs", with an undertitle of "in the age of mythology" or something like that.

And...

Gotta be careful with AOM, after all, that's a magical meditation word to some...don't wanna be politically INcorrect, you know.

j/k, my Zen friends.

I thought that was spelled just "OM". Even though it's not pronounced that way.

As my high school English teacher explained: "It is considered a four-syllable word. First is 'ahhh', second is 'ohhh', third is 'mmmm', and the silence afterward is considered a fourth syllable."

No, MS does not own the "Age of..." title, they own the "Age of Empires" title. IE: ES will not have Age of Empires Three: The Age of Mythology as their title, it will only be Age of Mythology.

That's why there is an Age of Wonders without lawsuits from MS.
