The settlement screw is most common in DM(Deathmatch) and occurs when 1 players settlements are located in the middle of the map or close by to the enemy.

This means the player can't build on his settlements without them getting destroyed. This results in the player having a lower population limit (120-140) compared to the opponents 160 population. You can see what will happen.

Changes Made to Current Game

1.)Players can build 2 other settlements (not including there starting TC) any where on the map

2.) Can only be built once (exception see point 4)

3.) When destroyed they are left as ruins (how they start of in AoM now), allowing the enemy to possibly build on it.

4.) If destroyed before they achieved 25% completion then you get the resoucres back and can place it in a different spot.

5.) To prevent players Norse players getting an early pop advantage and camping by building 2 settelements close by. Settlements can't be placed down right next to each other. There needs to be a radius around a settlement in which other settlements can't be built in.

Other possible changes:

1.)Players can build 3 other settlements (not including there starting TC) any where on the map

Allows for larger armies (180 pop)

2.) The more Settlements you build the more resouces are required.

EG.

2nd Settlement costs 350 W 250
3rd Settlement costs 400 W 300 G

This is more of a DM topic than a Supremacy one but this is the only place where ES will read it. I was also wondering how it would go in supremacy.

hmm, I like the idea for suprem too .. sounds cool something like this would be interesting, but im thinking its too late for such a big change in the exp. pack they probably made the randomizer better though so that not as many settlement screws happen ... or eliminated the problem completely ...

So you are saying that ES should remove settlements? Wouldnt that make map control weaker? Map control is a nice thing on aom. If you remove the settlements then map control will only be about goldmines. But chances are that you will have enough goldmines on your side that would enable you to hold on for long enough.

I agree that on dm, bad settlement placement can be a b1tch. On supremacy things are much slower so even if a settlement is slightly further than where it should be, you can get easily.

But then again, removing settlements can make town centers more important since you can place them close to strategical spots(chock points, goldmines, forward positions). Anyway this would be an interesting change cause it will create more strategies.

Actually its pretty similar with aok. Thats why you had tc booming at that game which was a decent strategy.

They could try to make DM maps fairer, or even create DM-only maps which are always symmetrical in terms of Settlement placement. However if this doesn't work, letting people build up to 2 Settlements at a certain radius from each other is a great idea. In Supremacy it's kind of nice that the Settlements are a bit random though, since you have more than 2 minutes to plan how you'll claim them.

Roland_IL yesterday created a map where only Norse would be TC-screwed 100% of the time, if he could make something like that. I'm guessing that all maps can be fixed...

If you have a large enoguh radius it will force players to expand to the sides to build there settlements, and will force them to build miltary buildings near to defend there settlements.
