Tonite, Little_goten(1637) and i(1577) were playing in a 2v2 rated match. Well we were immediately paired, but only one problem, the two players we were matched with had ratings of 1696 and 1654. What were we to do?!? I was sure that i read that there was fair play online...was this a freak of nature or does it happen all the time. Luckily or unluckily I got disconnect fromt the Internet and neither of us lost any points. But it seems that "Fair Play" was certainly not present in our game. Feel free to comment on the situation.

It happens sometimes, it's a lot harder to get a 2vs2 game than a 1vs1 game. Just rest assured that the higher rated your opponents are the fewer points you lose if you lose (or you gain more points if you win!)
Personally I never mind much playing a better player 'cause it's a good chance to gain a lot of points.
Yes folks it's me!!!!

Whaddya mean 'fair play?'
There's a handicap that kicks in at sufficiently large rating differences - apart from that, the system matches you up with opponents within roughly 100 points of yourself. Your team's average rating was about 70 less than theirs, which is entirely within the region of 'fair play' - though I think you were bordering on getting a handicap.
It is not at all 'fortunate' that you disconnected - what you should've done was immediately reconnect and offer your opponents a new game, so they wouldn't have wasted their time. Anything else strikes me as less than polite and fair.
I think you'd have lost at most 5-10 points from that match; your partner would've been worse to wear, though.

I can't say that 70 points is exactly Fair play but the 1695 was clearly above the 1695 range. The other lower rated guy was just riding him to get a better rating because when I started attacking the lower rated the 1695 immediately stopped attacking toilet and came for me. I think there should be a limit on the rating range that two partners can have. Like they have to be within 2o points of each other to play together. I am not complaining cause I lost I just don't think we were fairly matched.

There *is* a limit on ratings ranges involved in rated team games - it's defined by the handicap level. If the difference between the highest and lowest-level player is great enough to produce a handicap, the game won't be rated. I remember a long time ago once trying to get a 2v2 rated game; me and Mulfar against Swinger and Chump_CN. The funny part was that Chimp's rating was just low enough (1800-1850ish, to the other ratings in the game being 1900-2000ish, IIRC) to give him a 25% handicap - we just gave up on the idea, laughed at Chimp, and went back.
In this case, Toilet's rating was probably almost low enough to get a handicap off the 1696 guy, but not quite.

Well I read that if you're opponent has far more points than you then you get a handicap and/or the rating system is disabled. I know what happened to you happens in 1v1. I once got paired up with someone more than 125 points higher! I was at 1650 then and he was 1793! Fair play? Er...no! Obviously I lost and not only that I lost 25 points. No handicap was enabled nor was the rating system disabled. Either a majorly unfair game or a Major Bug!
Don't judge those who try and fail. Judge only those who fail to try.

Most peoples ratings tend to fluctuate over a range of 50 points based on chance, it's not like someone is fixed at 1634 and will always stay there, and if they are matched with a 1644 they will lose. However if you are matched with higher people you will lose fewer points if you lose the game, and win more points if you win it.
The handicap thing should be disabled, since the rating does not have to mean that the player is worse than you, he or she could be a smurf.

50+ point difference = game has to expand to match 150+ point difference = a handicap and the game is unrated.
If you think you have lost more points than you should have it's probably 2 games stats updating at once.
