I have never heard anyone talk about the difference between the red turtle icon and the red shield (circle) icon that will appear next to the name of a player, or players, when the game begins to lag.
I figured the turtle means your computer is not handling the processing. Turtles appear in Total war games all the time, once the game field fills up with units. People insist on playing 3 vs 3 Total war games, and they always get bogged down.
The shield has to be legit network lag/latency problems. If a person is red or yellow in the game room before the game starts, then they have a shield icon during the game.
So is this the way it works? Ive seen people with turtles get yelled at, and they reply they are on DSL or cable. If you turtle in regular games, then you need to turn down your resolution, and run the game in 16 bit color, not 32.
If everyone in AOM ran at 16 bit color instead of 32, there would be a *lot* less lagging going on...
