Delete these lines from aom directory/startup/user.cfg:
MinZoom=1
MaxZoom=100
LimitPitch=45

(Originally posted on MFO by mori_leone)
EDIT: Actually, this will only apply if you installed the merlord studios menu pack. At least you don't have to uninstall the whole thing.

Don't worry about it. Some people added those lines in the user.con so they can zoom in/out as much as they wanted. If you haven't added anything in your user.con you are ok, the oos error is probably caused by the other guy.

Oh, and I have NO user.cfg, and many people don't either.

So does this mean we wont get errors??

The default directory is:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Mythology\startup\ game.con (for AOM)

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Mythology\startup\ gamex.con (for AOT)

If you haven't done anything there's no reason to mess with it. Some people opened the file and made it so they can zoom out/in as much as they wanted. Its probably their fault for causing oos errors.

I haven't editted zooming, only editted it to allow Rotation of Building Foundations...that doesn't cause OOS does it? I thought most people had made this modification..)

I do not believe these changes could prevent out-of-sync errors.

I JUST REMEMBERED:

From the Patchx.rtf file:

"- Added additional checks for zoom cheats."

This must be it! They feel that being able to zoom out or in more is unfair on the other person....and so they made it cause OOS!

Hopefully, this'll solve the problem for most people!

Isn't that kind of a retarded way to prevent cheating?

Why yes it is.

But then again, it's not really.

Try downloading a AOM:TT Trainer (there may only be one), and use it in an online game. Within 5 seconds, you'll go OOS. Did it stop you from cheating? YES!

Therefore it DOES prevent OUTSIDE cheating (e.g. Hacks, Cracks, Mods etc.), but DOESN'T prevent "In-game" exploits (e.g. 99% Bug).

If they're not there, then it obviously isn't the problem. I'm sorry I can't test it right now though.

It could also be the other guy causing the oos.

Personally I doubt its ES fault. It has to be with either some mod installed even a simple one like new menu packs, enchanted features for the editor etc. One of them could have made a change in the game files that ESO doesn't like so it oos.

Get rid of them and try getting a game again but don't bug me if it doesn't work, I'm only trying to help.

Actually, I think this will only work with the Merlord Menu Pack. It automatically adds those lines for some reason. You don't have to remove the entire menu pack, just delete those lines.

It is certainly the merlock menu pack that is causing the problem !!

I had it installed - went Oos 5 times in a row.

Un-installed the menu pack - and Voila, game was running fine (until my opponent cast Tornado and the game went Oos anyway )

So try and remove the menu pack and see if that doesn't fix the problem - I bet it does

The only problem is the aforementioned lines that the pack adds, not the entire menu pack.

Funnily enough I also experienced OOS after I install menu pack X. Arnitald's prob is that he doesn't play online so he wouldn't have known about this problem.

Oh I see, there's lots of people that's been cheating it would seem. You don't have to have been cheating for you to go OoS. If your opponent has been cheating he will make the game go OoS.

The menu pack install a custom user.cfg... It is the only thing that we didn't think about. Therefore do what the thread does if it causes OoS. (I have no idea if it does)

Thanks for understanding.

Now that I think about it, the reason why some of my games had suddently such bad lag when my opponent was losing was because they must have zoomed out into space forcing to save.

Better to oos in 5 minutes than to save after 20 minutes.

Are some of you suggesting that AOM goes out of sync on purpose in response to things it thinks might be cheating attempts? Because OOS seems more like an unexpected error than a conscious decision by the game...

Yes, but OOS is sometimes caused by extreme lag, or connection problems. It's not [b]just/[b] cheating/hacking that causes it, but it does cause OOS.

Oh, and SilverOsirisAOM, if you havent modified it at all, there is no reason to delete it.
