they do care very much, that is piracy and denies the company its rightful profit for there product.
by him "lending" his friend the CD, he is potentially taking money from the company, because what says the person is not gonna just copy it to his drive or make a physical copy and not buy the product?
i think about 1999-2000, there was a surge in boot legging games and this hurt the gaming industry real bad, from a couple of companies there were some real shitty products, companies did not get the profits they deserved, (damn china town bootleggers!!)
honestly no one would know and people do it sometimes, get copies of games from friends instead of buying it. you want to make sure you buy a good quality product and its hard to tell what kind of fun you will get out a $30 game.
you are obviously an honest person, for you even coming here and asking this. so stick to your values and tell your friend if he likes the game so much go and buy a copy, why don't you be an even nicer friend and surprize him with a brand new packaged copy (if he is a good friend).
