Why can't I connect to certain people on my Friends list?

I will invite them but we cannot connect, they will invite me but we cannot connect. We will get a third fried to invite us both, one we can each connect to, but we still cannot connect...

This is really annoying and I can never play a game with these select few people. How can I fix this, or is this totally out of my hands and I should start flamming ESO emploees?

Just curious....

Yup this is a fairly common problem. I think it has to do with your router or something. I know ppl that had the same problem but then somehow they fixed it. Lets hope some1 can find you a solution.

I've had this problem with MSN, and seeing as MSN and ESO use Microsoft's passport system (I think), this might not be just a fault with ESO.

yeah, it's bad enough ESO is so buggy, but they also have to use MS's crappy passport system, which I personally hate.

Never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Well have you got any other suggestions?
MS's passport system- with one account you can access a whole variety of stuff, ZONE especially

It isn't ESO's fault that you have a router and/or a firewall.

Wait wait wait.... Whats up with this router or fire wall thing?

Is there anyway I can fix this?

And if I can connect to other people does that mean it isn't my router thats messed up and that it is theirs?

He's trying ESO, that's why it says ESO in the title .

I think you can disable your firewall from blocking the ports that AoM uses. However, very often, you and your friend can just restart Age of Mythology and the problem will go away. I do that whenever it happens to me.

This may not actually be a router/firewall issue.

My brother and I had this same problem in the past and it was actually an older version of uimain.xml or .xmb which was causing us the problem. One is for vanilla and one is for titans version. Once I used the proper titans one, I did not have any problems.

You can download Pete Vask's version of the villie counter user interface from my site http://members.shaw.ca/markstrawson
just to be sure to rule that out.

I've had the same problem and I believe it's mainly caused by Passport / Messenger. I've tried a lot of settings for my Firewall, and none made any difference, but I've found that if I shut down Messenger before logging into ESO, I have no more problems.

I am the one who can not connect with The_Ice_Titan_ and I would like to know if anyone knows where I can contact ESO or Microsoft about this game related issue, that is my last resort since I have tried everything else mentioned on this topic. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

there like this is a microsoft program and your gonna like it lol

But just as the smoke cleared, a red cloak of silk burnt and battle worn blew past the fire, and from the buring embers of the catapault Sir Grayhorn emerged, Jalmal's Bain still strongly grasped in his right hand and his kite shield lined with steel pierced with arrows held high in his left. The hero had endured.

Quoted from Fobulous:

turn off all firewall especially the XP-enabled one.

Where is that exactly? Does anyone think I might be able to connect if I restarted my pc with a clean boot?

to turn on/off your windows XP firewall,

go to start menu
click settings then control panel, or just control panel
double-click network connections
right click ur ISP and go to properties
go to advanced tab
check/uncheck box labeled:
"internet connection firewall
Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access from this computer from the internet"
click ok

The problem is not that we cannot play, because we can. The problem is that we cannot play with some ppl.

So why can this be a firewall thing?

If it was a firewall thing then I think that we could not play at all.

But we can.
