How do you get around trying to build walls in areas that are semi dark on the map.

For instance I will queue up a villie to do several tasks - build house, barracks, wall, etc, and some of the time when I'm trying to build a wall, I will be able to place part of the wall in an area, but maybe the middle of the wall will be Red and leave a gap.

What is the easiest solution - Do I simply need to send the villie over there and build the part that is available immediately and then go fill in any gaps which are left?

I do Scout - but occasionally leave a teeny patch dark and it screws up building the wall. I guess I need to make sure I've covered 100% of that area.
