Earlier this week I posted another 'lost' special on GPs. However I was able to tell you little or nothing about the two main stars of that post: 'Inferno' and 'Volcano'. Well no more. Although Inferno will, unfortunately, remain a mystery for the time being, I do now know alot about the god power Volcano.
It was completed and in the game, it just needed to be linked up. After studying the problem, I found a solution. I simply replaced Zeus' bolt with volcano in techtreex.
So once this was done I was finally able to view this long lost GP and what it reveal was very intresting.....
Volcano:
Although it is not possible to say who this power belonged to, I suspect the greeks, it is possible to say when it was avaliable. Given it's structure, it was most definately a final age GP, a natural disaster like Lightning Strom and Earthquake.
The in-game description went something like this: 'A volcano will rise and do massive destruction to buildings and units' And it wasn't kidding. This was a power that got axed, or changed(I'll explain later) early on. It gives a window into the world of GPs back in the beta days. And unlike now, they were STRONG!!!
So what happened once it was cast? Well, I wasn't too sure myself. I sat there, for few minutes, trying to process what I had just seen. If you blink you'll miss it! After casting the power, the screen shook. I few seconds later the ground began to blister. And then a funny looking rock appeared, for two seconds, resembling a hot water spring filled with lava. It then shot out some fire and vanished. Several seconds later more started to appear all over the ground. Then, unexpectedly, fireballs came raining down. The power lasted about 5 seconds in total and wipped out all life I had placed down. Even building fell with just one hit. Apparently, and I only got this after studying it up close, small volcano vents appear all over the area of effect. They then shoot out a fire ball, which disapears off screen and then returns to Earth a few seconds later. Both the fire ball being shot up and crashing did damage to units. After seeing the visual aspect of this power I'm glad it was axed(It looked pathetic, but it was a beta version god power so that's why), or was it?? Well, if you haven't seen a similarity yet, I'm about to point it out. The power was never axed, it merely evolved into Meteor Shower. The idea of fire balls raining down was kept, and the rest was axed. So Volcano became Meteor Shower, intresting hey? Well, that all for now!
