What I am doing, is speculating on the reason behind the NO DISCUCCING NO-CD PATCHES attitude versus the attitude found on other online communities, such as AOM, however, was developed later in the era of copyrights and lawsuits. The programmers had a much more *hey look what I can do, but its mine so don't steal it* attitude. One more reason, I think, is that Battlezone was never a huge-selling game. The developers now arent into the whole money thing. They just want people to enjoy the game. Arguably best Battlezone II player in existance Voted 1st best forumer ever to exist on the one Pandemic Studios Battlezone II Boards
The attitude there is one of acceptance and support for a no-cd patch. The developers even added it to their new public beta patch.
My speculation:
The computer industry has evolved. In the beginning, the programmers would say *hey look what I can do, here now why don't you do it to?* and have a very open attitude. That is one reason why the internet exploded so fast. Battlezone was developed in the tail end of that era.
Now thats not to say that either attutude is wrong. Thats not to say that one attitude is better than another.
Now, AOM devs want people to enjoy the game, too. They just want to make a little money while they're at it. Nothing is wrong with either of those views.
