I know that several times, before the game was released, the general public was called upon to do test for AoM's beta version, and some other occasions. I know they were sworen to secrecy then, but now I'm hoping you guys could tell us some stuff. My question, do you remember seeing any of the MUs or GPs I've mentioned in previous posts? Them being Apep, Rock Giant, Siren, Golem, Griffon, Sand Gaint, Fire Bird and Inferno. What did they do, look like, sound like etc. Or any current MUs that behaved vastly different? Any info would be great, as I'm really intrested to see what we missed out on. And it doesn't have to be beta testers, anyone who remember reading something or seeing a picture. Links to this sorta stuff would be great too.
Thanks!

I played the alpha & beta versions, and everything that you mentioned was already removed by that time from what I remember. Basically at that point the game was similiar to release, with some bugs and imbalances.

What he said. I do remember when PW posted about how he Meteored his own town though.
Thanks guys, shame, I was hoping for a scoop! (okay this is supposed to be a sad face!) Anyway. This is probably a stupid question, but do any guys from ES come on here, and would they be willing to take a little time out to tell us abou these units?
Bye

The multiplayer alpha was pretty much the finished game, so unfortunately no real secrets in it.
Though the alpha did have quite a few differences. The biggest one I can recall from memory is that the Eclipse GP shortened the range of all ranged units and buildings to 4.

PW-- We do.
I do remember ES originally announcing that the alpha would be only the Zeus and Poseidon civs...and me wanting to cry at the time before ES expanded it to all nine of the original civs. But that was really the extent of it being the finished game. We only got one or two maps to play on, and there was no AI.

The Alpha was more or less the same thing as the release version. To the untrained eye, they'd appear exactly the same. But, there were some small differences. For example, Toxotes were super overpowered. Also, Eclipse, rather than making your MU's better, brought the LOS and range of your enemy down to 1. Also, Thor started with villagers, rather than dwarves.

There are some old screenshots of what you're looking for. I know I've seen Rock Giants and Apep. Also, a lot of the old units look very different...the old Sphynx was an ugly lil bugger. Speaking of which, the Sphynx's special attack used to be like a very limited version of shifting sands, being able to quickly move a little ways. But ES decided that was too much like the Anubite's special attack.
