An Easy level AI does not attack, at least not for a long, long time.
A Moderate level AI will eventually attack about 3 times, then pause attacking for a long time.
A Hard level AI will attack fairly constantly and build up at a moderate speed, eventually getting a Titan and if Sup, a Wonder.
A Titan level AI is a Hard level AI with 100% handicap.
In all cases, the AI is not restricted by FoW, it knows where you are.
The AI is pattern based, meaning it will attack you along the same route each time, or build a Dock in the same place each time (if you destroy one). Once you know it's pattern, you can prepare.
The AI's units are set to Attack Move, so you can send out a fast unit into their LoS, and they will follow it to the far corners of the map, as long as it remains in their LoS (delaying tactic). Small sections of Walls placed around the map will attract the AI, if they're in it's LoS, because of the Attack Move setting.
The AI's units are prioritized to attack villies or Citizens first, over military units (if within their LoS), you can use this to draw them into Tower fire, or some place of your choosing to fight.
If the AI builds a Titan and a Wonder, it will normally position it's Titan to protect the Wonder, vs sending it to your base to destroy it.
On Water maps, Siege ships are a good tool for killing a Titan.
If you only play AoM, not AoT (not sure from your post), just ignore the references to the Titan and Citizens.
Playing on-line vs real players is a lot more entertaining than vs the AI - IMO!
FAILURE is not an option, it comes bundled with the software.
