Not true, Pocatello_Champ. You should always be making villagers.
You are arguing that if you forget to switch from one recource to another, then you will not have enough villagers on some of those recources.
But if you forget to change the destination point when auto que is on, how the hell do you expect to remember to make villagers and change the destination point? Even if you do forget to change your villies destination point with auto que on:
you might have
20 villagers on food, 5 on wood, and 5 on gold
If you forget to make villies (or simply don't want to):
you could have
5 villagers on food, 5 on wood, and 5 on gold.
20 villagers on food, 5 on wood, and 5 on gold >>>>>>>>> 5 villagers on food, 5 on wood, and 5 on gold, because you can simply switch them from food once you notice that you have so many, and put them to another recource.
And to the second part of your post:
So what if you get dependant on it? Unless you lose your Titans disk and are forced to play regular AoM without auto que, it doesn't hurt you at all.
To the topic creator:
Yes, auto que villagers. If you notice you have more than enough of one recource at this point, switch villagers from that recource to something you don't have much of.
Later in the game, there are lots of things you can do with those extra villagers, mostly having to do with buildings.
Basically, get a bunch of your villagers to simply spam migdols and towers all over the map, and some seige workshops. Once you can no longer make migdols and towers, spam barrackes. Auto que whichever unit will help you the most at that moment (probably chariot archers to fight off their armies that try to attack your migdols/towers), and make some seige weapons as well. Disrupt their economy whenever you get the chance, and destroy their buildings with seige weapons.. Oh, and make sure you get all upgrades that will help you. Armory upgrades, medium/heavy/champion upgrades, building upgrades, anything that you will use.
Get a Titan and a wonder if you want.
The only reason to kill villagers is in a very long game where all of the gold on the entire map as been mined, and you need pop room for more caravans so you might want to kill some of your gold miners - but still you might not want to. Those can be valuable wood/food gatherers or builders.
As long as you kill their seige weapons and seige-like myth units, your chariots and spammed migdols and towers will destroy your opponent easily. Just build a new migdol once you lose one, and keep making buildings on the front line. Destroy their buildings, especially town centers and houses, whenever you get the chance.
That is why lots of villies >>>>>>>>>> less villies.
