Yes, just heard from interview...marketting open beta probably around summer. Hrmm, you think they will hit it? They also said that there will be a definite open beta...something to look foward to.

Of course, I missed that bit of the interview. Doh

Open beta...very cool! That'll help us get through the summer. They'll likely have a pretty solid beta by summer, should be great!

That will help us get through the summer, but are we allowed to talk about? Those NDA seems very restrictive...

If its an open beta, can everyone beta test? If that's so, the only reason to buy the game would be less bugs. I guess you wouldn't have to do all that miserable reporting stone_giant talked about...

Oh well, I want to beta anyways..

I expect they'll have something built into the beta so that once the game is released the game stops working (some sort of time limit). Sure, you could probably hack into it and bypass it... but I bet you could make the $40-50 you need to buy AoM in the amount of time you'd waste doing it. You'd still give feedback in an open beta... if no one was giving feedback the whole thing would be worthless.

As long as it's not US/Canada only, I don't care what form it is.

Not sure how ES will handle this marketing beta as they said. They did not mention anything of a closed beta(very restrictive NDA). They are suppose to hit Alpha early next month, confirmed from interview.

Also confirmed they said a open beta in May/June.
"Definitely expect a marketing beta in the May/June time frame."
"Tens of thousands of people to jump in and have fun with it."

Just wanted to mention it.

Maybe the beta doesn't include every feature of the game so that you'd still have to buy the game.

The open beta will probably be like the Beta for EE in that i will only include some civs (so maybe in the open beta you will only be able to play the greeks and the eggies...) and some of the units would be restricted...

possibly restricted multiplayer game play meaning only like 3 RMs you can play, 2 victory conditions...ect...

and maybe a tiny single player campaign...

At my signal unleash HELL.

Nicked this one from my beta post.

Quoted from David Rippy, asked about an open beta:

There will be, not ready to announce anything quite yet, but yeah you can definitely expect a marketing beta probably around the May/June time frame and that will be where we have tens of thousands of people to jump and have fun with us.

That basically means, a full version of AoM will be put up on the ES site, and anyone who wants to download it, can . Hopefully there'll be one major version, and small patches onto that, I can't afford to be downloading 300mb of files every week.

Not 100% sure on this, so don't hold me too it

Enjoy playing AoM 3 months before its released

Yeah, a download of 300 megs would take a week, I wouldn't be happy to have to redo it after that.

An open beta from a Microsoft held company, I will believe it when I see it. It would also be so sweet that I dare not start hoping for it just yet.

"That basically means, a full version of AoM will be put up on the ES site, and anyone who wants to download it, can."

What it would mean is a beta class demo version with specific things in it that ES wants us gamers to try out. Like multiplayer code stability, god powers and some other but certainly not all of the new key elements.

An open beta for AoM would be fantastic. Im currently beta testing Ragnarok Online, and its great(will be fantastic when it goes final). But for AoM, which I am certain will be the best strategy game to date,... to beta test that? Wow, I sure hope so.
