I love AOM. And I would love an AOM2 to be released. But please note the language. By saying would, I am not saying will. I’m all up for speculation, and hope, but when it gets to a point where every other week there is a new member with a thread along the lines of “some guy off eso/ my friend / some unknown site say there will be an AOM2, OMG is it true?” It just gets to me. First there is the moment of anticipation... what if some guy off eso/ my friend / some unknown site are true? Then after looking at what they say... you realise no. And you’ve just had your hopes built up for nothing. And then, if that’s not enough you have to break the news to the new member crushing their soul, and a little bit of yours.
The only thing I ask is, don’t post a thread about AOM2 unless you have a link to a real article by ES from a respectable website. It’s not hard to apply those rules to differentiate between fact and rumour.
I am now going to go through some of the arguments on why AOM2 is not going to happen. There split into a few different areas. Game play, Business sense and Time.
Now imagine they make AoM2. Do you think it might not ruin the legacy that is AoM1 if it turned out to be poor? Do you really think they will want to ruin the name of one of their best titles?
We first have Halo wars. And then an extension. And based on how AoE3 went maybe 2 more extensions. Then we have the first chance for them to make AoM2. How long in the future is that? 2-3 years? Well then what if ES goes with AoE4 or Halo wars 2 or a new series? Well then it’s another build up, release extension, maybe a few more extensions... so now its 5-6 years? And ES can still choose to make AoE5 or Halo wars 3 or New Series 2 or AoM2. You see where I’m going?
Will you by the time AoM2 come out really care? Will you not instead be knee deep in university assignments or a job or a family?
I hope you understand why I made this guide. As I typed up every single point, it was sad to realise the truth. But truth is important. It’s important we don’t get carried away will false hope, as it only hurts more when the truth comes out.
