build walls and towers, easy as that, keep meelee/ hack dmg soldiers close to your walls in case of siege weponds coming to knock down your walls. if you can help it, NEVER play defensivly as norse, only a stone wall, norse are made for rushing, use them for that. keep at least one villie inside of a tower close to your walls to repair when needed. keep that going for a little while and then focus on your army, build a large army, then hotkey them to your groups (CTL+1-9). use your caverlys to scout out the enemy and look for nice areas close to his base to build a military base. while doing this dont forget to keep the defense going by adding additional layers of walls, adding archers on hold position stance etc. once you find a nice area build walls for that, not towers though as it is not completely needed, build a med sized force and hotkey them. scout for another area good for a military base, do the same thing as the first. build siege wepons too, as they will be needed for destroying the tc and large buildings. when this is done, if you feel like you have enough men, you can attack, or if you think he's too strong, keep building men. IMPORTANT: if the enemy finds your military base you must attack right away! otherwise he will counter your units if hes smart and begin making defenses. now, about the walls, as soon as you can afford it begin making them, no matter what age your in, but if your against norse you better hurry to brace yourself for the common norse rush.
the best civ to be as when using this tactic is either greek (powerfull infentry) or atlantian (great building and resource gathering). you may ask how is this defense, the first part i explained was defense, the second was how to use the defense into tricking your opponent into thinking your just going to defend. hope this helps =D
