Hi there! I have been playing AOMTT for a few weeks now with some friends (co-op against computer). I use Kronos. I keep reading that Chieros are good against buildings. However, when I look up the stats on the Chieros, they do pierce damage with no bonuses against buildings. Also, most buildings have a 96% armor against pierce attacks, which should make the chieros pretty much useless against buildings. Why is there a general view that they are good against buildings?

It states at unit info that they do decent against buildings. From experience I know that they do. Decent.. not good
One of the reasons might be that they shoot a bunch of arrows, fired at units most of them will miss. As buildings dont move and are big and easy to hit they do a decent damage.

I remember one of the guides made about the various siege said something about how the Burning Pitch upgrade had only a graphical effect on Chieros...

I had some time to run a quick test. I set up a scenario with a single manor in the middle of the map.
First I put a set of 10 turma to take down the manor. It took 1 min. 30 sec..
Next I put a set of 5 chieros against the manor. It took 45 sec..
Lastly I put a set of 3 prometheans. It took less than 30 seconds.
I think I'll use prometheans to tackle the buildings during classical instead of chieros. IMO, chieros seem too expensive with limited value.

Minimum damage for ONE arrow is 1 damage. Doesn't matter if the building has 99% pierce armor.
That explains it.

Nirwanda: thanks for clarifying. Regardless, the Chieros are still very slow to take down a building.
A correction on my prev post: 3 prometheans can take down the single manor in about 13 seconds (quite fast!).

Chieroballistas are decent vs buildings with burning pitch..
but they shouldnt be used to destroy buildings, they should focus on countering infantry
and about the general view it is probably that they are classified as a siege weapon they put it is effective vs buildings
