You usually do a ring around your town and then just go back to empower your granary in most situations.

I saw at some expert Isis recs that he used his pharaoh and priest to scout, is that viable?

Actually there are quite a few reasons why Isis would scout with her Pharaoh. For one, if you start out on a map with no hunt in your starting LOS, it is definitely either advised to throw down a monument with your pharaoh empowering it, or for him to scout himself.
Oasis and Alfheim are the two biggest culprits for maps that you may need to do this on. On Oasis it is just like how you see good Norse players go double ulf on Oasis to get more goats, you do the same with your pharaoh a lot of the time. I actually only do it if I see a gg relic where my priest has already scouted or if I do not have initial hunt. You can sometimes do this on Ghost Lake too, but I usually never do.
And as I already mentioned with sending your Pharaoh out to get a really good relic on maps that you don't have great starting hunt, you can actually do this on all maps. One that you wouldn't think would be appropriate is actually Marsh. If you find an exceptional relic with your priest it is worth it quite often to send your pharaoh out to get out.
