(Not Finished)
Just look at him, using his shape-shifting powers to give himself undeserved muscles and a funny mustache.
Well guest what, I'm here to make sure that he is and will stay
First though, we must learn about Zeus if we're going to kill him:
Bonuses:
Starts with 15 favor and can reach 200 favor instead of 100
Villagers generate favor 37.5% faster
Hoplites move 12% faster (4.704)
Infantry do damage x1.5 to buildings
Access to the Minor God Hera and the Myrmidon
God Power: Bolt. Kill a single target unit instantly.
Technology: Olympic Parent. Heroes have 25% more hit points.
Heroes:
Archaic Age: Jason (Infantry)
Classical Age: Odysseus (Archer)
Heroic Age: Heracles (Infantry)
Mythic Age: Bellerophon (Cavalry with jump attack)
Let's break it down one by one:
He has starting favor, had a favor limit at 200, and lets units generate favor 37.5% faster. We can see this guy likes his MUs.
His Hoplites get a nice speed boost, making them as fast as Jarls, the 2nd slowest cavalry (War Elephants are the first, at a steady 2.9).
Infantry also do 1.5 dm vs. buildings, so raiding is now a Hoplites' second strength (other than cavalry). This is even more helpful in the Mythic Age when the powerful Myrmidons get another dm (along with their racist one; more description on that later). Hypaspists could work, but not really because of their low base attack (I would use them to kill some Spearmen rather than a Watch Tower). Now it's obvious that he likes his MUs with infantry. I'll emphasize Hera (his wife, which is why she's exclusive to him in his pantheon, much like Loki's daughter Hel is) and the mighty Myrmidon later on in the How to.
His gp is useful against Nidhogg or the SoO, but since these are Mythic Age gps, no one's going to pick Osiris or Hel because they already know they're going against Zeus. Some may use it to destroy a siege or carrying, or powerful myth unit, but that rarely really changes a game.
Since Greek heroes already carry a fairly hefty number of hit points, his tech will help them even more. However, there are only 4 and you can just retrain them if they die (and Apollo's Temple of Healing tech already heals them), but I guess it's good in that they don't die in a battle that often (costing you more resources).
His heroes, like all Greek heroes, are strong as stated above, and are not affected by unit counters, unlike Norse Hersir. However, you can still win by killing all other units and then using close-combat HUs to surround the hero/es and ranged units as back up. Don't put melee MUs around them (obviously) or else Zeus will micromanage onto the usually tough units.
Jason is just your average infantry hero. He's pretty weak; a group of Villagers could kill him, but with some casualties. He can kind of be used for raiding and always as a relic gatherer, though Norse (or Atlanteans using an Oracle hero) players will almost always get to them first. Also useful for an early raid. I'd recommend getting him as soon as you hit Classical (or if it's a definite raider god, like that wily Loki or feral Set). Wait, we're pwning him, I'm not here to teach you how to play him. But it is good if you can predict every move he makes.
Odysseus is an MUs greatest fear, a long-ranged hero that can zero in on any one of them (Priests are a little short in distance, but Atlantean hero archers work the same as Greek archer heroes). You can counter this by using long-ranged MUs only, because then they won't get hit by any heroes at all (all of them have around a 6-11 dm), unless they want to have a horde of Spearmen circling around them.
Heracles is "an upgraded version of Jason", but has somewhat more of everything (bad things too, like more population, cost, and training time) than he does.
Bellerophon is said to be the strongest hero in the game (however there is only one of them, two types of heroes aren't even supposed to be strong, Perseus is like a Medusa, so just a special attack and the highest dm versus MUs, not large amounts of damage or anything like that, and Polyphemus and the SoO could pwn this guy, while the rest of the Greek heroes are in lesser ages so they have lesser power), and can always kill a somewhat weak MU in only one of his jump attacks (Anubites, Amanra, and Theris are the only other jumpers). He has high stats from defense gained from age advancements, and pretty much comes with Olympic Parentage (for comparison, Poseidon's lower cavalry cost and the (most unused unit (that's right, parentheses in parentheses in parentheses)ever) Hetairoi come together like Sentinels and 1.1 bonus archer damage from Hades). This guy is going to be tough to take down. At least he costs a lot, so the Zeus player will think twice if 400 gold (6 favor isn't really a problem for Zeus) should be spent to revive the guy. He has the most attack (Poly has the most hp) of heroes, and so is very powerful unless you've got some infantry, as they're hack-resistant, and make his 20 mostly into about a 15 (but with a few armor upgrades, he can only do 10!). His jump attack recharges in only five seconds, so MUs are rarely safe from this guy. There is only one Bellerophon you're ever going to be fighting though, just like Polyphemus, or SoO, but curse those multiplayer battles if there are ever any more.
Now that we've seen what most of Zeus' advantages are, let's search through the mind of a Zeus player, preferably some strategy guides. That's right, straight into Strategy Central (found when you scroll to the Tartarus of this page, click Age of Mythology Heaven, and search for "Strategy Central" on the left side). First, let's interpret eX_Hope's, in hope that he is a good strategy guide writer, so that we can use his logic to destroy the very god he writes about.
Introduction
I don't want to copy another one of his horrid urls ever again, so I won't. Those biceps don't make you cool, man. Neither does the haircut.
Zeus has often been classified as one of the weaker gods in Age of Mythology, but by utilizing some of his special bonuses he can become incredibly powerful, and extremely tough to tangle with for a player on the opposite side. How can you you utilize these bonuses you ask? Read on to find out!
He is a powerful god; I used him before he betrayed me when he made lose half my games against Titan CPU. The punk. I play Isis now, which is why I've used mostly Egyptian units in my references (for example, Chariot Archers and Axemen pwn Hoplites, but no one cares about TA except for those bearded Norsy horsies). I think I've used pwn too much in this guide;way too much. I'll replace it with own from now on. ANYWAYS, he's a very hard opponent if you're not fighting against a
It's okay guys, that's a picture from Google, not me.
You know what, that's getting scary, I'll delete him tomorrow.
The rest of the first page is bonuses, pantheon, blah blah blah, basic stuff, and water start. Ah!, second page.
I like my Sphinx and Lion friends, and enjoy catching Phoenixes again and again and again and- oh, that ghost phoenix as my undesired avatar is watching me! He's haunting me, everywhere I go. Maybe I should switch to Caladrias. Then again Battle Boars ain't bad either.
