Hey ya'll. First off, I want to say how awesome it is to see a good amount of people still playing this game online. I used to play about 8 years ago and rediscovered the game because of an extra credit assignment for an Ancient Mythology class I took this semester, and I've found the game still as much fun as I did back then. I'm glad Voobly lets us play online when ESO stopped working.
I've started to play Thor this time around as opposed to Oranos who I used to play, so any tips regarding Norse play and Thor specifically are certainly welcome. I'm starting to try to get more serious with it, so I have a few questions regarding certain situations when playing, based off recorded games I've watched and my own personal play:
1) When queuing to resources, is there any real benefit in a staggered approach (1 to food, 1 to gold, 1 to food) as opposed to a straight one (2 to food, 1 to gold)?
2) Is it more advantageous to upgrade (including economy, military units and armory) gradually or to save up resources and get them back to back?
3) Instead of one group of vils/dwarves/gatherers of say 10+ on a single resource, should I split it up into 2 groups of 5+ in different areas?
4) Should I only be queuing one unit that uses the same resources as another at a time? For example, should I be AQing gatherers and raiding cavalry simultaneously or only one at a time?
5) When attacking an opponent, is it more important to take out their military buildings first then focus on their military units, or vice versa?
7) I have no idea how to play on water maps, so I usually stick to my land-map strategies. It hasn't really come back to bite me, but is utilizing the water-front really that big of a deal?
8) Does using hotkeys actually save a significant amount of time?
9) Early game, should I worry more about getting a lot of units out or upgrading them first?
10) This is a Thor-specific question. I've seen players go 2 dwarves to gold in addition to the 2 Thor starts with + pickaxe at the very beginning of games that are low hunt. What is the point of this?
Thanks very much for answers and keep playing!
