This is a purely economic question: I've seen and read a dozen of recorded games and walkthroughs for major gods (sadly I'm a bit slow at memorizing build orders) but from what games I've so far carried out, I've come to the conclusion that I'm a bit slow with early economy! So my question is this: how many villagers/laborers/gatherers/dwarves/citizens should I have before hitting the button to classical! (this is purely for statistical purposes, so that I should know where to aim; I'm not interested for a particular major god, only for a general mean number for each civilization)

Ok thanks! I usually had about 13 villagers instead of 17-18! This helped me a lot!

Starting economy is so important in this game, it is incredible!
For atlanteans the standard amount to have is 5, but you might be able to get away with six if your build is off.
For all the other races, between 22-23 is your goal which involves pumping nonstop from the start and advancing between 4:30 and 4:45
If Norse is your path, in that 22-23 you want to get about 5 dwarves to hold down your gold while you advance.
Good luck and keep practicing!
