Throughout all of Age of Mythology's Development Cycle countless Units, Campaigns, Scenarios, History Files and Sounds were removed and or replaced, but due to left overs we can have a look at things that were removed.

How Was the Chariot Found?
ES had revealed numerous Screenshots from their builds, About a dozen show the Elusive Chariot.
Ever Noticed why, when the Chariot Archers are upgraded? and it only says "Heavy Chariot" or "Champion Chariot" instead of "Heavy Chariot Archer"? Well the the Chariot Archer's Names for upgrades are there, it just uses the the Chariot Upgrade Names for it instead.
Interesting enough, the language.dll states that the Chariot could be upgraded into a Scythe Chariot, with TRAMPLE DAMAGE! (yay!)
Fun Fact: The Trample Damage was supposed to be used for War Elephants, Scythe Chariots, Cataphracts, and Jarls

The Chariot was the Light Cavalry of the Egyptians, being fast, and having lots of damage, abet with less health, However it's likely he most likely cost Food and Gold, instead of the Trash Chariots of the Original Age of Empires. It would have been a Anti-Cavalry unit, The EgyptianProdromoi, The Camelry was just an Eggy Hippikon.
According to it's Attach Animation it was supposed to be an Eggy Peltast on a Chariot.

What Happened To Him?
He was removed sometime in January of 2002, and his Anti-Cavalry Ability was given to the Camelry.
My Guess is that they couldn't get his Attack animation to work, or he didn't fit, or it was because of the "Make all Civilizations to be unique, our of fear of staleness" trope.
Author's Note
In the Multiplayer Alpha, I had discovered some models for the chariot, it had everything but flail and Walk Animations, I was able to use his models for the Chariot unit in Improvement Mod.
