I'm considering making my own "extended edition" of this game. if there is interest from the community.

There will be limits to what I can do to improve AOM since I don't have the source code, but below is a list of ideas that would be possible.

Possible Features
-Mod Manager
-Day/Night cycle
-Improved Textures
-Bug fixes
-Community driven balance changes
-Automatic updates for this "extended edition"
-Rotate buildings
-Option to choose to play game with or without build limits.

Is there any interest in something like this? Or does anyone have any comments/suggestions?

I have EE, it's got too many bugs that don't exist in the original game.

i would like to see what you can fix that the original teams couldn't do when they made the extended edition.

Everything I listed above can be done without the source code.
I plan on building my own "launcher" for AOM that will control updates, and be a mod manager.

xxmodder: You are probably better fixing the bugs in EE and have as a Workshop item - some have already done this.

nottud: The only problem with that idea is that the workshop and mod manager in EE doesn't work with all the files I'd like to modify. Certain mods will still have to be manually installed. It won't be as simple as subscribing to a workshop item.

never be bothered with Day/Night cycle (just looks like recycling Eclipse).

perhaps add AoE's colour option?
wt abt online mode, will it be via voobly or?

I'd be interested in a mod that made AoM more moddable if that make sense? I love being back to tinker with protox and techtreex, but I do want to do more sometimes. I would love to change things that are hardcoded (such as automaton decay rates, or add in new conditions so scorpion man's poison is more appropriately a single target).

Scorpion Man is hardcoded, Automaton decay rate isn't (it's controlled via the gamex.cfg)
