Those of you on slower lines, please be patient while the picture loads. Click here to open the image in a new window.
There seems to be a height difference between the highlighted villagers and the regular villagers.
These then, are Dwarves, perhaps?
Note also the wolf-headed guys who we initially thought might be dwarves appeared in this much earlier screenshot.
This raises so many questions. Are those normal villagers distorted by the picture somehow? What ARE the guys with the wolf heads? Is Shadow making something out of nothing again? (Again. ) What are guys with the gorilla suits doing in AoM?
...anyone have any thoughts?

Those are the "Gorrila units". They carry axes, not swords (as they're described in the units page: "Swordsmen"). Maybe they were bear skins, and they're the berserkers... but I guess the "wolfmen" are the real berserks:
The "wolfmen"'s mask looks more like a bear mask, when you look at it closely. The color is brown (and I've never seen a brown wolf, [except dogs] ).)

Well it's possible that it's merely misinterpretation resulting from trying to hold a comparison between items that graphically only differ in height by a few pixels and it's extremely hard to be sure of things. I'll remain sceptical on the dwarves until ES give me a high res comparison of them. (Hehe.)
As for bears/wolves I've still yet to find anything historical that might relate to it, so it's still a mystery to me what they are...

the "midget villiger that stands furthest to the right and is walking is just a normal villiger, the two that are minning are dwarfs.
TSD, there's no shame in being wrong

Hmmm Druids often wear masks and clothes of animals. Also werewolves and Werebears are half bears/wolves and human
Some admire the wolf/bear so much they even wear their clotes.
Bears and wolves are famous in mythology and a sign of power. I guess that's why they wear masks of them.

Yeah, the wolfmen are definatelly bearmen... wait a minute...
Bearmen sounds like bezerker...(sorta)
Bezerker means bare-chested...
The bearmen are bare-chested....
Therefore they are bezerkers!

It's from around december, I think. So those are fairly up to date graphics.

I think I might have found something:
Quote:
Berserk
Etymology "bear sark: bear shirt"
In old-Norse sagas, they were warriors who dressed themselves in bear skins, to make use of the fear common people had for wild animals. They whipped themselves up to a sort of battle frenzy, biting their shields and howling like animals. They were ferocious fighters and seemingly insensitive to pain while this madness lasted; berserks made formidable enemies. In their rage they even attacked the boulders and trees of the forest; it was not uncommon that they killed their own people. The belief in berserks can be compared with the belief in werewolves; both are magical transformations of humans who assume the shape of an kindred animal.
So these are probably Norse Berserks. Cool!

Hey, that's exacly like Viking Berserkers, guess it runs in the Norse family if you know what I mean!
"In the centre was Phobos (Fear) worked in adamant, unspeakable, staring backwards with eyes that glowed with fire. His mouth was full of teeth in a white row, fearful and daunting, and upon his grim brow hovered frightful Eris (Strife) who arrays the throng of men ...

There's also a lot of speculation that Berserkers used narcotics to dull the pain of wounds taken in battle...
Fascinating, Norse history is...simply fascinating...

I think Berserks would be more powerful than the generic infantry unit.
