If you read the Gamespot Preview carefully, you'll find something I found a little bit strange:
Quote:
"One of Loki's aforementioned monster children was the hideous Fenris Wolf, which actually bit off the hand of Tyr. As payback, Tyr can train the fenris brood, the offspring of the original Fenris."
This, and along with the fact that Loki has a minor diety all his own, makes me think that maybe Loki can train "THE Fenris Wolf"... a strong expensive orginal wolf, just as portrayed in Norse Mythology.
It seems strange to me that a giant, strong, going-to-kill-the-king-of-the-gods-at-the-end-of-time, creature would be split up into "a brood" unless they are using an orginal fenris wolf for Loki, and a pack of smaller wolves for Thor/Odin.
Am I on to something, or waaaay off?

perhaps...like the wolfies that are available to Tyr are like a weaker species and that Loki has like the mega fenris?

no, what this is saying is that Fenris was Loki's son, but the god who gets him as a Myth Unit is Tyr, who got his hand bit off by the Wolf, thus as payback for getting his hand bit off...Tyr can "recruit" the Fenris wolf's sons...torturing them by putting them through battle after battle...
im hoping that Loki's myth unit is the Midgard Serpant...

It feels strange to me both for the setting of the game and for gameplays sake. I fear that having several types of not so strong but not so expensive Mythological Units goes against the basic early concept of having each MU making its precense felt on the battlefield. Not only would it feel obvious(initially anyway) to me that a single big fenris wolf would both feel and play out better, but the choice of having several weaker MU's makes the concept a bit less interesting. Perhaps some time in the future I will but so far I haven't seen any real need to have these relatively inexpensive MU's in the game to begin with.

I see a trend here:
GREEKS:
- all civs can train hoplites, but ZEUS' hoplites will be the toughest
EGYPTIAN:
- all civs can train priests, but RA will have the strongest priests of them all
... and for the NORSE, so far:
- all civs can train dwarves, but THOR's dwarves will be the best of the Norse. -------------
So pretty much, all the three cultures' bonuses will revolve around that concepts/mechanics, where one of major god will give a "super bonus" to a unit/building/tech.

Alexander: There's more to that trend, too. All Greek civs (I assume) can train cavalry, but hints have been dropped implying that Poseidon's four-legged brigades will be the best of the Greek horsies.
Swordmaster: There'll be myth units for the main deities. ES is making sure that the AoM previews don't reveal everything, and I think the main deity info is included. After all, it has been confirmed that Zeus does indeed have a GP, so why wouldn't he have an MU?
