One thing I find lacking in AoK multiplayer is the lack of external servers so that people can use a spare computer to host a game, much like the servers for first-person shooters (most notably Half-Life).
Now, I doubt this'll happen at all (especially a linux server like HL has!) but I figure it was worth a shot asking if this was at all feasible, or, perhaps, in the works.

I don't think this will work since the gameplay isn't really something that u can pick up and leave like in FPS games. Unless...

If I understood it right, in AoK, *each* computer in a multiplayer game was handling the game for all the players in the game. This was deployed to make it tough for people to make trainers (there are still trainers out there, but it took them quite a while before a trainer came out)
So no, you don't need a dedicated server to do all the calculations...
