Personally in Age of Kings I was most excited about the things that were obvious upgrades to existing features. For example, being able to select 40 guys at a time, being able to queue farms, being able to walk THROUGH town centers. Still, I was excited about some of the new concepts as well: From gates, to having an idle villager button, to castles.
Obviously Age of Mythology will have way more focus on radical new ideas than Age of Kings did... but I hope they make as much progress mastering legacy features as they did last time... from what I have seen in the UI so far I think they have, but we'll see. With significant changes to farms and houses, there is no question that they are making an effort to make the basic gameplay experience better, hopefully many of the changes will be clear wins over the past behavior.
What are your post-mortem thoughts on the Best Of the new ideas in Age of Kings? Either your reaction when it first game out or your conclusions after playing the hell out of the game.
