does anyone know if mercenenaries are going to take up pop slots?,(hope they don't, would make defending outlying settlements much easier)

I also agree mercenaries probably don't take up pop slots. Mercenaries are for last ditch defenses if someone rushes you early on. It would be dumb if the only reason you couldn't build mercenaries when you were about to die was because you didnt have enough pop. Also they are temporary units so why would they take up pop. They go away anyway.

Yea, no pop slots seems reasonable. I think their temporary stay and cost will balance them enough I suppose. But we shall see.

You can only build mercenaries at Town Centers and Town Centers can only be built on Settlements, so mercenaries will never be used offensively because they simply don't last long enough.

Unless you always go for the TC first and pop your own TC on the settlement.

If you own your enemy's settlement he has more to worry about then mercenaries, and If you own all the settlements on the map you win the game.
