lately i added a router to my network (so i can share the internet connection between all the pcs) but i noticed that certain games can't host games (EE) while others (AOE,...) can't play at all. Shoot-em-ups on the other work fine, they allow me to change their local ports ( definition: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/p/port.html ).
Will AOM allow the change of the local port?? it would be very useful when more then one pc on a network want to play.

I have my computer hooked up on a network that has its own firewall built in there and it gave me all sorts of problems playing AOK on zone.com. I opened up ports on my network but the only way I could ever get it to work was to get in the game last because it still wouldn't let anyone connect to my comp . THEY NEED TO FIX THIS FOR AOM PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! .

if I were you guys, Id just get a 10/100 mbps hub, so much less hassle, and you can get a firewall with norton, and turn it off if you want. And if you want to share a connection, make a proxy, its incredibly simple. just go to www.analogx.com and look in the networking section, look for something with proxy.

I agree with kooky. Another good firewall, if you could use it instead of the ones you have now, is Zone Alarm. It's free and it will ask you if you want to allow the games to access your computer.
Eh? . . .

OK, i do not want the firewall, my mom got this stupid Homeportal thing that already had a firewall built in. The stupid thing will only allow you to open up so many ports too. I would open up all of the ports but it won't let me...why? i don't know. It will work in games played on battle.net, and other games, but not aok on the zone. The homeportal will not fix it and the zone says that it doesn't support homenetworking when you try to play so I hope I will be able to play AOM.

using a proxy complicates alot of stuff ... using NAT is more simple, programs don't need to be setup to use proxies.
ps: games don't support proxies

Sorry i am rather ignorant on all the different ways to set up a network, but what would be the easiest way to fix this and how do you do it? P.S. I can not disable the firewall
