I've always enjoyed the intermingling of Economy and Military in Age Games. Personally, I was a better Economic player then a Military builder in both AoE/RoR and AoK/AoC. In allied games I usually had one ally who was obsessively Militaristic in picking his civilizations. For example, he could pick the Goths so to speak. Though the Goth's didn't have walls, it was still easy for him/her to go behind my tough defences and feed off of my economy that I build up. In many ways, I was the feeder/Defensive and he was the Reciever/Aggresive.
Still, I could still beat player militaristally and my allies could be substantial economys.
AoE wasn't necessarily dependent on Economy, you could still play purely Militaristic Game with someone and you could probably beat them. This was due to the fact that AoE's economy was much harder to control. AoK was substantially Economy run; Therefore people usually ended up picking civilizations that could support both a good Military and Economy.
In some ways, it was finding this 'perfect' balance which made a good AoK game.
However, AoM is based mostly on Gods. These God's have a high militaristic, but depend on some functions of the economy and religion. It's easy to assume that AoM will allow the Economy to be important, but also these gods and their militaristic values. It will be rather surprising seeing how balanced the Economy/Religion will be with the Military when the game comes out. I am also sure that there will be civilizations (God's) in AoM which may be 'favourites' for many people. Though, the one thing in Age games I enjoyed was the option that there were different types of civiizations for different people to excel with. For example, one may excel with the Goths better then the Byzantines, and vice-versa. I'm very interested in which civilization the majority of people will excel with in AoM, or if ES will balance them out accordingly.
