Only a few days ago, it was announced by ES that the map size will not be the same as in Age of Kings. The exact, proven facts for map sizes are as follows: Yes, forumers, this means no more 4v4 tiny bloodbaths, or even 8v8 we had been anticipating in Age of Mythology. No more 1v1 giants that all of us have at some point enjoyed. The freedom to choose, and selection to choose from, are both gone or restricted; map sizes, which were not enough in Age of Kings, has been lessened to ridiculous numbers - TWO - while if the second fact stays true until release, we will have no choice over what size map we play. There is simply NO excuse for ES to do such a thing. There is no reason to restrict us from choosing map sizes; they cannot make us play in map sizes they choose, and we can choose for ourselves what map to play in, because we are not stupid. Replayability, gameplay value and the fun of Age of Mythology is lessened by this ridiculous, unreasonable, inexcusable, needless restriction that ES has imposed; and this is perhaps the only issue where I have been truly disappointed with ES. This is the kind of mistake that was made in creation of Empire Earth. In that game you could not choose what civs your computer opponents/allies were! To think that ES would slump to level of EE to make such a mistake is disheartening, yet I tell you all this now so that we may yet influence ES to revert this terrible decision. I call on a petition, to change back this map restriction ES has imposed, and if you agree to the cause, please say "I agree" in bold in a reply. The freedom of choice has been stripped from us. Help earn it back. -The_Avenger772, your fellow forumer
-players will NOT be able to choose what size map they play; the computer will determine the map size depending on the number ofp layers.
Whether the two facts combine to mean that one can choose "normal" or "large" version of the predetermined map size, or the fact that the no. of players will determine whether we will play or "normal" or "large", is not yet known.
