Looking at the screenshots, I can see that the 3d rendetion of the units is kind of rough. Well, I know that with 3d games most often than not that's the case, but does the units in gameplay differ dramatically from the way they look in the screenshots. The art, in my opinion, still needs some work.

Well i have seen the vid at that Bonus Website. But you can see that it is fully 3D. As the fire giant turns you can see the full 3Deness? Of him. To bad the vid is low quality. I cant wait for more screens...

When compared to 2D artwork a similar image rendered in realtime with 3D graphics has a natural tendency to look a bit more edgy. But as soon as 3D units start to move one will instantly notice just how much better they animate. The 3D graphics does present itself very differently when compared to the old 2D engine. Some details might look better in 2D but with fairly modern 3D hardware I doubt that even I will miss the old 2D engine once I get some first-hand experience with the new. With one of the hottest 3D-cards one should be able to turn on antialiasing filters and still get a very playable framerate. Those filters could take away a lot of the edges around the units.
Screenshots of modern 3D graphics does not do justice to how the image will look alive on the screen.

As Kaziglu Bey mentioned, screenshots just don't show the game in it's full glory.
The unit animation is so smooth and fluid, it's truly something to behold.
ES had high standards for everything, especially their artwork. They will continue refining and improving upon the art for months to come. It will only get better.
