Just wondering if anyone knows how effective the hersirs are at generating favour? If you built around twenty Hersir, would it be like having an egyptian monument? Or would you need too many for this to be of any use? Cheers

The most effective way for the Norse to generate favor in AoM is by killing; the secondary (less effective) way is Hersirs generate small amounts of favor...

Hersirs generate about enugh favor to get you from that annoying 29 up to 30. You can't really get favor without fighting.

do they still generate bonus favour per kill over other units?

Its probably some queer conversion rate like 1 kill=1/2 favor, counting on the idea that if it's only one kill amassed in a ten second period of time(JUST A PROSPECTIVE IDEA!!!), that you'd either get the full favor or lose the half favor.
But those are, keep in mind, just my ideas. It's probably something more like 1 kill=1 favor, but the 1/2 favor thing would probably be better because you'd get the benefit of the doubt in larger battles.

actually i dont believe you dont need kills at all. if you just damage them you get favor as well...

yup. if you were good enough, you could damage everything to minimal HP, and thus not kill anyone, but still get lots of favor.
I'll give you a hint.. destroy a fire giant, you get lots of favor. destroy a valkyrie, you get less.
It's from 8-12 Hersir (we still shift numbers like this around a lot) to equal the first Egyptian Monument. It's enough to get a few myth techs and maybe a troll if you postpone fighting (which can happen on defensive or islandy maps) but you're much better off trying to fight for Favor.
