Looking back at the old screenshots i noticed the old trees as most people have noticed already - but i've also noticed old ulfsarks, raider cavalry, ulf jarl, villagers, goats, greek cavalry, effects, docks, boats etc etc etc. Thats alot of game art...
Hmmm - i just noticed that then trees have full shadows. Most unit's shadows (including flying units) simply have a shaded circle under them, while in the screenshots i've seen horses, pegases' and other units to have full shadows instead of the circle thing. Considering that shadows cause lotsa lag, this was a semi-wise choice ES. So ES, what happens to these old bits of game art and textures? The tree's especially were nice and shouldn't be wasted... If you don't want them in the game than how about the scenario editor. It won't be hard to make Pines1 and Pines2 tree types, old and new types. If you don't want that than atleast you could put them in the editor as seperate tree units - just like those Tree A's and Tree B's etc etc in AOK. And the old dock, the one that had a ship in it (the new ones don't have that and have lighthouses instead) That could be placed in the editor and called Dockyard or something, and'll have the same functionality as a normal dock. The old caravans - something could be made of them, same with the old cavalry (that stood up on it's hind legs - norse raider cavalry i think it was) you could leave them in the editor and change their name to Scout Cavalary or something. Need i say anything else, the rest of the old art is cool as well. If the graphics were incomplete than atleast leave them in the game through RMSing so that EO or Rasher or someone can extract them to a template... If the old art can't be used ingame than atleast implement what could into the scenario editor. [This message has been edited by CheeZy_monkey0 (edited 09-12-2002 @ 10:36 PM).]
old goats (or a different color i guess), old market (both old and new look equally cool...) old palm trees (the old trees were just as cool as the new, 'cept the new have better texturing) and old trade camels - and what apears to be an old stable (there is no egyptian stable now... a measure taken to simplify and highlight that culture i spose)
Also theres a seige workshop - which there isn't anymore.
That probably was another step to both shorten an average game and simplify the greeks. 5 different war buildings is enough - they've already got a fortress, stable, archery range, and barracks.
Believe that those hopelites (spearmen) are old as well.
Here we see some of the coolest footage of AOM from E3 2002.
I didn't see any unique lighting effects sutch as these in the alpha.
ES this is a very cool feature, i hope you haven't thrown it out.
I see that theres a stable again.
