How about an all-purpose mythological creature that could metamorphosize? It would come out like a Collossus (slightly watered down of course). It could transform into a Pheonix (actually, I don't know if you would even have to water that one down). The only purpose in making it able to transform into a sea-based mythological creature would be as a means of transporting other creatures. I don't know if I would let it transform into a sea-creature. Of course, you could give it better sea-fighting stats when it was transformed into a sea creature. If you absoultely needed some help in a sea battle, the creature could transform into a sea creature and fight better that way than it could as a flyer against boats.
On a side note, how about the idea of a Collossus doing a breast stroke across the water with a bunch of infantry and archers on his back?

my guess is colusus's will sink before you can say "why is there water in my shoes?"
let me see if i can understand it correctly, it can only transform once?
It's like watching a flock of clown-like apes trying to navigate a ship, even though the ship has in fact been stranded on some kind of reef for about 7 years and none of the apes have noticed it yet. -Drahnier on OD moderation.

No, it could transform on command to whatever creature you wanted.
What if it did it automatically? It would be in Collossus form and would be chasing some villagers and would suddenly transform into a swift bird.
Maybe it could even be a Classical Age raiding hero. It could fly over walls and transform into a villager smashing infantry unit.

I like the metamorphose idea. That creature will have to be relatively weak for his price, because its very hard to counter him (if you build archers it'll turn to a fast unit, if you build infantry it will become a ranged unit...).

maybe not a total transform. maybe like half of the origal MU's HP for balance. why would you make phoenix's if you could build the meta-unit?

He would have to be overpriced. Sort of a combination of a seriously watered down Collossus and a seriously watered down Pheonix for the same price as those creatures cost. The idea is based on a "jack of all trades, master at none" theory.

Does either Norse/Eggy/Greek/whatever is added in xpack mythology have some kind of metamorphosising creature? If not, then no. If so, I don't see why not but it would be hard to balance.

I think that would have to be more of a cheat than a real game unit. Even if it is a super priced MU, there would prolly be some type of build order to get at least one.

I tend to look at the Historical Side of Age Expansion pack Ideas, as well as the gameplay side. I don't remember reading anything on Metamorphisizing Mythological Units that are all-purpose and has incredible amounts of strength and dominance. There are several religions in the world today who have incredibly powerful dieties, and it would be wrong for ES to use them in their games under the title of Age of Mythology.
Therefore, I'd have to disagree with you in this fact, Newbie.
Secondly, it would make the game unbalanced in many cases. ES would need to equal the strength in the other civilizations, and also people would use this and only this unit most of the time to beat eachother. That would take away most of the aspect of the game.
