Smaller as in the scale relative to the buildings, or they look smaller because the view can be zoomed out more than in the Alpha?

I think the scale was a bit too accurate. You have to squint sometimes at the highest degree zoom out.

We like small units and buildings, not because of limitations in the engine, but because you can see more of your army and city at once. It sucks if a building takes up a quarter of the screen--you have to constantly scroll around to deal with battles.

You can always zoom in a little if you want to, but amongst the unimportant realism factors scale has to be one of the least important for a game of this type. What's important is that units and buildings can be seen for what they are and identified. And that a giant looks like a giant compared to regular units, not wether he's thirty or three times as tall. Think about what it means to the practical aspects of a game. It's that simple.
