I play as Ra and the last 4 games of rated i've played have been against poseidon. In each game my opponent has me scouted well and knows exactly where all my nearby gold mines are. Then they hit me with about 10 hippikons as a raiding party. The hipps just run by my spears and straight for my villies mining gold. Then when my spears catch up they run away. There's no point in chasing them since I can't catch them. They keep raiding the one or two mines I'm at and guard any other close by ones until I'm gold staved enough that I can never match their economy. Any advice on how to defend against this?

Place 3 or 4 spearman next to the mine your mining right of the bat if you know he has you scouted out good. this will slow him down( enough to bring your main army over) or make him look for other villies to raid but then you'll now what way he is headed. Leave the spears there till you get an advantage and start attacking.

split your gold miners, build buildings around them, and block the opnenings with spearmen

completely agree with thors hammer. i play zeus (so similar raiding strat), and whenever i encounter goldmines with buildings and spearmen, it just makes me frustrated.

however, i try to make it a priority to get army to close goldmines b4 the eggy player expands. they won't be able to guard 3-4 goldmines at the same time.

with eggy, it's mapcontrol. can the eggy player expand to goldmines or not?

that'll tell the story of the game.

as an eggy player, it's a priority to defend and expand to goldmines. as an anti-eggy player, it's a priority to stop this expansion.

yeh thats true it probably gets easier to raid later in the game, and generally most players, even the good players dont bother once they reach heroic...but its never to late to raid!

build a tower or two near each mine, and then partially house them. If he attacks, garrison your villies in the tower, which can only be attacked by one or two cavalry at a time. If necessary, add spears. Whenever I raid, this really frustrates me.
