Well, one thing you could try is start with your forward barracks pumping a few raiding cavalry to raid him early (just to keep him unaware of your forward base for as long as possible). While you have your raiding cavalry going around, start building towers towards his base. Then once you have 2 or 3 up, you can switch over to throwing axemen because you will probably end up with extra wood once in a while to keep pushing forward with towers if you want to.
Anyways, do with your forward towers as you would do at your home base; use houses as partial walls (or fully around if you don't care about garrissoning).
That should achieve the basic effect you are looking for I believe. Once you get past 8 or 9 minutes, things become so erratic it's not really worth strategizing over, just figure it out in-game.
