Most greek players just do a hippikon rush, backed up by toxotes, so hoplites are not used as much as hippikons or toxotes, Hoplites cost 50F,40G, when your zeus hoplites alone can destroy towns. I only tried this once against a computer(FOR ADVANCEMENT TIMES NOT EFFECTIVENESS)I had to capatilize that so people would see it, the time that you advance to classical age wouldnt matter if you had a human player rather than a computer player. If I remember right when I tested this I did the following:
It was midgard
starting 3 vil to food
6 more vil to food for a total of 9
2 on gold
1 on wood
1 more on gold
1 vil makes house then goes to wood
1 more on gold for a total of 4
16th villager makes temple then goes to wood
advance as Athena
Also I never researched any economy techs
Since I had 9 villagers on food i had around 399 food by that time I advanced.
Like I previously stated the above things would not change if I was going against a human player.
What I would in classical age is "attempt" to build 2-3 military academies(not all at once since you would only have 3 vil on wood), I would move one of my food villagers outside my enemies town and make one military academy after another. I would also continue to build more villagers and put them mainly on gold.
Now the following would all depend on the type of player i'm playing, if the enemy does not have good scouting he will not find your buildings, 11 medium hoplites with a minotaur and a restoration can take out a longhouse or two along with a town center, and since your military acadamies are right outside his town you can keep pumping out hoplites. Also since the enemy is busy fighting your hoplites, your villagers can go around the map gathering from every huntable animal.
Now I KNOW this is not as good as a strategy as many others, but right now it may not be good but in the future it may be famous, hey if in AOM patch 1.02 you came up with the Set Rush people would laugh at you, ok so i'm waiting for responses from more experienced people to tell me how to make this strategy better.
