I'd just like to comment on a game I played about 2 weeks ago, 1v1 rated where I got stuck at 396 food when my hunting ran out and my next closest food source (scouted food source) was on the other side of my base, slowing my Classical advance to like 7:15 (Map was Savannah).
When I finally got there, my opponent had already thrown up a forward TC and a forward temple, I knew Cyclops were probably coming but I still wasn't ready when he showed up with 3 Elder Cyclops with Tox support.
It was an imposing army, but sadly I was easily able to take out the Cyclops since they're too slow to get away and they really don't have a great attack rating (15). The instant kill is what makes them annoying in Classical, but I concluded after that game that they really are nothing more than food intensive siege units. I'm not sure if this was common knowledge but for whatever reason I had considered Cyclops like slower, stronger Minotaurs.
Anyhow, I'll do some more experimenting, but for now I think they're best used to target an expensive enemy unit (Hippikon or RC early on, Elephants later) for the instant kill, and then target an enemy building. In essence, they're more Mountain Giant than Minotaur. [This message has been edited by SeaBass (edited 08-17-2004 @ 10:16 PM).]
