if you play age of titans youd probably notice that alot ppl normaly pick beginner rating and face ppl that muych weaker mainly starters i did it before but i was shut to others truast me its easy beating someone with 1 farmerminner wood cutter
their many noobs like this that normaly lost their first games and only foundd aout theycould do advanced set up but after getting practice for long time THEY becaume better just like you]
but some are just lucky evenw ith out expansion thy get pu up against players way wores than them

most people that your referring to got over 1600 likely by luck, they just met someone who didn't know how to play and won. But some 1500's have been playing a long time and/or just stopped doing quick setups so their rating might be higher then it really is. I notice the same thing sometimes, except that for me its that 1600's are harder to beat then 1700's

i find a big difference in playing 1600s to 1700s, i can beat most 1600s but can rarely beat 1700s.

That's only because people who are still under 1600 are those who have played the game for hundreds of times and still haven't gotten the basics down.
Trick to beating anyone under 1600 is to let the game run its course, do NOT try to get an early win, and run them out of economy (for it is there that they usually lack in skills).
