During the transition I try to grab a forward TC. It can be defended with Carnivora/Spiders, yields favor, shoots arrows and trains new vils. Once it is up, build rax and counterrax BEHIND it. Meanwhile, you;ve been spamming Citizens from multiple TCs, assigning them mainly to wood and farms, so you have a huge econ. Go Heroic. If you haven't won (or lost) by this point, the enemy is either strong, or you haven't attacked yet. No problem, Gaia's amazing Econ techs (get the Heroic ones asap as well) allow you to get to Mythic to get some very powerful units. You need either Destroyers, Behemoths or Fire Siphons as siege; Destroyers benefit from the same upgrades as Fanatics (which you want FU) but Fire Siphons do the job better IMHO. Also AQ your Mythic Myth Unit, their powerful specials help out against heavy enemy units that can threathen your infantry horde. Your build order looks ok, you only need one vil on gold initially, focus on food so you can advance quicker. Try not to have to many vils against rushing civs (5F 1W 1G may be enough, but 5 2 2 is good when you want a forward TC fast). Use Gaia Forest around tower(s) facing the enemy. If I have enough I'll get the econ upgrades even before advancing, THE ECON UPGRADES ARE GAIAS MAIN STRENGTH. With res flowing in so fast you can crank out huge armies faster than your enemy and it doesn't matter that you don't get powerful military bonuses.
Choose Oceanus on water, against Loki/Kronos/Zeus/Eggie and when rushing with Murmillo spam.
Choose Leto against most other civs and when playing defensive to FH or FM.
Now you have to decide if you want to attack or defend until Heroic. In both cases, spam Citizens from two or even three TCs. Get the NEW econ upgrades asap in early Classical. They're dead cheap and with them, you can both boom AND spam military.
BEWARE of an early rush before you get that TC up, at this point you are esp weak against Heroes (which kill Automatons and Carnivora) and Myth Units (since you don't yet have the econ for many Heroes). This is the only point in the game that is really dangerous for Gaia, once you get a sizeable forward base with military, the enemy is at a disadvantage.
Now it's time to max out and FU your army and attack when you didn't already do so. Unless you want to hit Mythic almost immediately (which you can if you've been booming) and go for massed Fanatics with Fire Siphons. If not:
It's time to AQ Fanatics (get at least three Palaces) instead of any other Infantry. Massed Fanatics cut through EVERYTHING, they are one of the best units in the game. In Mythic I usually dispense with Counterrax units (depends on enemy army of course) and go all out Infantry / Arcus / Siege army. It's a very flexible combo that can really kill most things you encounter due to high attack. Be sure to micro though.
If the enemy is strong and you think a Titan may be needed, ALWAYS GO HEKATE, get Mythic Rejuvenation, build Titan behind your considerable defenses and army, and attack. Pull Titan back when he's at 1/3th health, let him heal for like 5 mins, repeat. GG.
