I was wondering if their was a way to get things to cover more ground? like when I am making water I have to span the entire map to get something I want. I know there is the paint thing but that always seems like it never puts in water but only digs the area for it. and I also have a problem that when I do get enough water out for me I put in like boats and stuff but they rarely show up. I just click and nothing goes there. if anyone could help me I would be greatful.
What I just said is a lie.

With the water, 2 things I find work for me:
1. Check the paint area box 2. Even if just digs, just scroll around and do other things for a minute or two and when you come back, your water will have magically appeared :O
I don't know about your boat placing problem, could you give more dtail
if a unit doesnt show up when place restart and it probavbly will show up.....

Try different elevation (prob higher) for water.
If a unit doesn't show up then make sure it's selected and a ghost image of it is following your cursor.
If it gets placed once, try unit copy/paste.

I've never had it just "dig" for me... strange.
And if a unit is placed you'll see a little notification on the minimap. If it's not placed (or can't because theres some very bad elevation there) nothing'll happen meaning you didn't place the unit.
If you want to quicken things up while you're designing like have a bigger paint brush size read this Hotkeys Article
To make shift through the brush sizes press 1 through 9. To make your own size (can be as big as you want) press
Ctrl + click and hold left mouse button + move up/down to make the size smaller or bigger
I think it's ctrl. If not try shift or alt

heres a little background of whats happening with the unit not showing up and stuff. I will select a unit(most of the time its a water unit) and when I place it down in some places I get something saying "fishing ship has been placed" or somthing like that but I can not see it on the map. its the same thing with docks, I can see the ground for it because the ground alters itself sligtly but nothing shows up and I cant select it.

amazingly that works fine for water but not for the units.
