Yes, you can do this. Create your file but make sure it's in MP3 format. You can place the file anywhere but I usually place them into the AOT>sound>xmusic folder. It's not crucial which folder, but remember where you put it cause it will be important later. Once you've created your MP3 file, and placed it into one of the sound folders, you'll have to create a trigger:
Trigger: XXX Condition: XXX Effect type: Play Dialogue Sound: you can either write out the sound file name or click on the browse tab and locate the file. Click once on the sound file and hit open (double clicking the file name doesn't work). This will automatically stick the file name into the sound box.
Once your scenario is complete, you will have to include a copy of the sound file with the scenario file that you intend to upload, and instruct people in your install notes to install the sound file in whatever folder your trigger looks in for the file. So if you originally installed the sound file to AOT>sound>xmusic folder (and put that name in the sound box of your trigger), people who DL your scenario must also install the sound file into that same folder. If this isn't done, the sound file will not play.

thanks, I've been having trouble with this too
quick question, when pointing to sound files, do you have to specify the entire directory tree, i.e., C:\program files\games\AOM\"folder"? Or do you just use a relative file location using the AOM folder as a root. For example, let's say you create a folder for your sounds called myScxSounds, would you just enter the folder name followed by the file name? something like
myScxSounds\testing.mp3

I think so... But why don't you just use the "Browse" tab?

well, that's how you pick the file. But for other players, who don't have the same directory structure as you, the path to the file on your computer will be different from theirs. If they don't have the folder "myScxSounds" in their AOM folder, do they only have to create that folder in their AOM directory, or is there more involved?
thanks :Z

I think the folder path just starts with Age of Mythology... it would have to, I'd think, because anyone has the option of installing the game where ever they want on their computer. So, the path for the folder you mentioned is most likely...
Age of Mythology\sounds\myScxSounds
Otherwise, if the full path were included, and if the game had been installed somewhere besides the default location, sound files selected by that person, or any other selectable files for that matter, wouldn't be found by the scenario if it were played by someone else who had installed the game in the default location, or another location... if that made any sense. So I would think it starts with the AOM folder as the root.

Age of Mythology/sounds/bla/bla.mp3 is only used if you put the sounds on the My Documents AoM folder.

Quoted from xLpx:

wha...? I don't have a My Documents folder in my AoM directory. Do I need to make one, i.e.,...
AOM\My Documents
