I thought it was about time to aid our beloved mods by voting for what scenarios we want spotlighted. I'll put up the numbers here, and if the mods agree with the general majority, the spotlight is up. This is because I know alot of mods don't have the time to play all the good scns, and really, there are lots of scns worth spotlighting!

Here we go, just put in the name of the scenario you wish to vote for a spotlight-

I vote Ajax: Flight of the Herclids.

^ Its a fantastic scenario with some wonderful new innovations/idea to the RPG genre- and very much worth a spotlight. IMO, you should all play it- I gave it a review, definately worth the top rated section.

VOTES:

Ajax: Flight of the Herclids.

Sorry for interrupting this, but you don't happen to want to get Birthright spotlighted this way?

IMO, there's at the moment nothing to spotlight. King Jared's "Last Stand Of Atlantis" will be worth it, though, I vote for that.

Hey, I doubt there is anyone in here that wouldn't want his scenario spotlighted, no?

Actually, I remember a huge discussion on creating something like this- you sure you can't find anything to spotlight at the moment? (Try Ajax scen, its pretty good)

Quoted from me, in the community forum:

Don't overestimate yourself, Guardian

And frankly, although you might interpret it as an offense again, there are people that are not so excited about your scenario that they count the days until its release.

Concerning the Ajax scenario: I started it, saw the confused camera tracks, the black map in the intro, noticed it wasn't skippable, plus the strange message "theoretically this could last forever [the intro]" and had enough of it.

A spotlight mustn't have these flaws in it IMO.

Don't get worked up over nothing. After all, you were the one who mentioned my scenario, not me.

Hmmm, the intro does not need to be skippable really. Also, about the black map in the intro, I think its because alot of his triggers run on the 'Units in LOS' trigger so it really makes sense to keep the black map on in that case.

In any case, that's just my vote. Everyone else is welcome to give their own.

Unfortunately, this opinion is still wide-spread. *sigh* I personally hate that, and therefore I wrote this guide...

- The "confused camera tracks" AoMplayer is talking about might not look too smooth due to timing issues. I've talked about this with student and it turned out a matter of video card speed.
- The black map is Student's style. If you don't like it, just ignore it and try to see the good things in the cinematic.
- If you try to skip an intro cinematic, it's clear that you don't put much effort in following the story. Why would you want to skip it? Yes, it would be a nice feature for those lazy guys who only want to hack and slash and then give a 1 out of 5 for storyline. Only if you want to play the same scen twice, it's handy to be able to skip some cinematics.

I agree with guardian that it's a good and innovative scenario.

Exactly, IMO, the story is very powerful in that scn and it is definately the part I liked the most. (AoMPlayer, is it that you made that guide that you want everyone to skip their intros so bad?).

I know why he kept the black map. Its obvious that some parts of his scenario use the Units in LOS trigger- it would cost him like 100 more triggers just to make you happy (and its not worth it, IMO just ignore the black map).

Good job Student. That's two votes for your scenario so far.

Are you crazy?! You don't know what you're talking about I think; a skippable intro doesn't mean that one has to neglect or disregard a good story! It's just that when has to restart the scenario one has to wait for a long time to play it again! Look how ES did it; one either can watch it again if it's good or skip it! It's an asset for the scenario! And if you two were honest; you never tried to make an intro skippable because you think it's too complicated and not worth the effort, did you?

Apart from that, a black map is uglier than a revealed one... But well, that's a matter of taste.

No, I'm not And I did try your skippable introtrick once, and I'd certainly use it if I'd make a scenario with a long and boring intro movie. This intro cinematic was neither long, nor boring.

Well, as I said, I found it bad. Apart from that, even a perfect cinematic is annoying to watch for the third time. Don't be so naive Archy, the choice between watching or canceling it is in any time better than no choice. And if you fell like you had to watch it five times, it's still possible. Besides, don't tell me you haven't used the Esc button in ES' campaigns. It's simply more professional and user-friendly, I think the setup just deters you and you haven't seen it used in a custom scn before (except in oddy's "Survival Of The Phoenix"). What you wrote is really pointless.

Please AoMPlayer read my replies!

Quoted from me!:

This intro cinematic was neither long, nor boring.

And therefore I fail to see the use of such a choice in this scenario. It'll only come in handy if (as I said before) you want to replay the scen multiple times - which I've never done with any scen so far - or if (as I said before) the cinematic is really long - which wasn't the case here.

And I don't know why you suddenly come up with ES' campaigns, but I can tell you I barely used ESC - the only times I used it was after replaying a scen for the 3rd time, which didn't occur very often.

So, to be short:

YES, ITS A FANTASTIC ABILITY, BUT ITS SIMPLY NOT NECESSARY IN EVERY SCENARIO, AND THEREFORE YOU SHOULDNT JUDGE EVERY SCENARIO ON IT.

This is my humble opinion and I'm not changing it.

^ lol exactly what I was going to say. Just press F8. Infact, the scen designer can tell people to press F8 instead of doing a thousand triggers to make it skippable. That way, he'll force the user to watch it atleast once. Your guide is nice AoMPlayer. Just not everyone has to use it...

@ Guardian: The point is, to make a cinematic skippable you don't need any triggers, it's a function of the editor. Thanks for calling my guide nice though, although you apparently never read it.

Apearently, render fog/black map doesn't give "real" LOS. you can't invoke god powers on "render fog/black map" LOS, so I doubt the triggers would fire.

Anyway, I agree with arch, you shouldn't judge every scenario on if it has one feature in the intro or not.

Is it possible to make a "QuickSave" effect, something like the screenshot effect in NXE or something

I think FOG.

I don't think so (that's why you should make it skippable, for example), but the LOS thing is correct. Apart from that, the non-skippability () wasn't the only thing that deterred me, as I mentioned before.

The Hobbit is not even for TT and you say you want to encourage sth new? Come on, you just don't like Shilmista because it's been compared to KotM many times and always won.

Anyway, I think one should only spotlight new releases. So I vote for King Jared's "Last Stand Of Atlantis", I mentioned that before but you seem to have ignored it.

*Exactly* my point. The Hobbit is Isatari's newest release.

Sometimes you contradict yourself without even realising it AoMPlayer. And I am very proud of my 'KoTM' achievements. Just to let you know, I won the Best Scenario Designer Award, Most Challenging Scenario Award, Best SP Scenario Award...I think KoTM won its share of awards and I am proud of that.Link if you're interested.

I really have nothing against Shilimsta. I wouldn't put up a vote for KoTM either- new [RELEASED] scenarios only. We haven't even played King Jared's map yet. When its out, everyone will review it, it'll be spotlighted and get the attention it deserves.

The Hobbit is old and for AoM Vanilla. Being Istari's newest release is a lame excuse. It's not topical, do you get that? We won't dig out relics of the DL section so to say and represent them to the public.

And for those prizes... I don't know who voted for you. But still you are not the best designer ever, your scenarios don't top Shilmista, you'll never be able to compete with people like King Jared, and Birthright won't recieve an overall 5.0 rating.

I don't see any contradictions in my post BTW, maybe I the statement Shilmista was better than KotM is a contridiction in your eyes.

And you still haven't put up my vote.
