Going back to this thread
http://aom.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/forums/display.cgi?action=ct&f=13,18724,,all

I've found I am unable to use any of these in the 'Play Dialogue' effect for cinematics. Is there any way to make it possible to use in cinematics?

I haven't tested it, but I hve seen it used before in cinematics, and even multiplayer cinematics.

for play dialogue i believe you need to use the format:
Text "+code+" Text

ex:
Welcome, "+playername(1)+", to my scenario.

Note: I have not tested this. It should work but i'm not 100% sure.

I seem to recall spending about a week tearing out my hair trying to make those work in cinematics and send spoofed chat, and then eventually deciding it wasn't worth the effort.

As a matter of fact, I replied to that thread about it. I believe the conclusion was you couldn't, because " marks mess up the Play Dialouge effect.

Quotes dont mess up your triggers when they're a part of a valid code.

Ok I haven't tried this but is this what you're looking for? It's in the triggers.

Yeah, but this is an RMS, not a scenario.

Hi RiderOfEternity,

To use playername in a cinematic you just need to write somewhere in the subtitles {playername(0)}

Where 0 is, is the player number. So if you wanna have the name of player 12 you use {playername(12)}.

You can also use {playername(-1)} then everyone will see his own name on that place.

An example: Welcome to my RPG {playername(1)}, {playername(2)}, {playername(3)} and {playername(4)}.
Will be this is game: Welcome to my RPG mr_whatever1, mr_whatever2, mr_whatever3 and mr_whatever4.

Note::: The number system is the same for:

playerAge
playerActive
playerCivilization
playerCulture
playerName
playerColor
playerTeamScore
playerScore
playerTeam

Yes, in Play Dialouge and in Message, {playername(0)} just shows up as text and " text " + {playername(0)} + " text " doesn't work at all.
