Some people have recently discovered that you can post in colours, in bold and even in italics on these forums. This is of course very handy for things like showcases, guides, etc. But people have started to abuse it. For some reason we suddenly have to select the text - so we can read the now white text - before we know what it is about.

This has been leading to the aggressive reactions from other forummers, and I hope we can ban the annoying colour-abuse without damaging things like showcases, guides, signatures? and other things.

What's Fwiffo?

If it's that anime thing, then it can't be better than Fullmetal Alchemist (subject for future discussion...).

Is it that anime thing?

Oh, funny, I typed in that in a web search and got an anime charactor. Oh well, I guess I'd better delete that Fullmetal thing before it starts a forum war in the morning...

I would just like to say that I show ZERO respect towards those who post like that. I will probably ignore all of your posts. It is just a sign of immaturity, and being an attention *****. Think of it this way; it is more work for you, posting that code in every post, it makes the community mad, and you get shown no respect. So why is it worth it? I would just like to end my "rave" with this; why do you post in different fonts? Now don't go and answer this right away, take a little time to think about it.

I was just a newbie and didin't think that anyone cared about my posts anyway, and I'm sorry.
Any negative feelings left?

No I am happy

First of all, enabling or disabling the BB code in forums is out of my or any standard moderators' hands. I don't even know if global mods have that ability; it may well be restricted to the highest ranking mods, like Zen or Spiney.
Secondly, even if I had such a power, I'd refuse to ruin the BB code privelage for everyone just because a few errant knaves decide to abuse it. It can be a very handy tool for emphasizing and articulating text and I'd be loath to remove it because of some minor irritants.

I never said to remove the BB Code, I would like to punish people who overuse it unjustifiably.

Quote:

Thirdly, just as I can't and won't turn off BB code, nor can I justifiably punish those who do overuse the BB code function; there's nothing in the rules that says one can't post in colours/italics all the time. I may not like it, and I may even encourage such forumers to stop, but I can't rightfully enforce such misgivings by, say, officially warning/banning that forumer, except perhaps under extreme circumstances.

I was hoping to inplant such a rule.

Quote:

Be all that as it may, as it stands, no, colour and italics aren't forbidden, and aren't likely to be forbidden any time soon.

Ok, thanks for clearing this up, I will have to find a another way then.

I realized how hard it is to be a newbee by the time being. One solution though is... too never start anything, ever. I'ld rather die... and I'll always be one of... us.
I write in black, because it's already difficult enough for me to think, then I have no time left for... but that's everyone's decision... Looks fun, sometimes...

It's not that I find the colours themself very annoying, it is their egoism to keep posting in colours even though they know that it annoys many forumers.

A good point. If I were doing something to agrivate other members of the community and they told me about it I would want to stop immediately, it doesn't help them in the long run. The fact that they continue to do so in a thread purely condemning such actions is beyond me.

*Ahem*

You may not publicly complain about or demand a reason for another user's ban, the deletion of a message, or the deletion/closure of a thread. Any discussion about warnings, bans, message deletion, thread deletion and thread closure should be done over private email between the person concerned and the moderators

However, as we've already made clear, we're not going to ban people who overuse formatting, unless it's in a particularly blinding colour, or otherwise detrimental to the community.

I misunderstood you, then.

Not as simple as that. As I mentioned, while HG is not a democracy, there would be a hefty bureaucratic process involving chains of command, discussion, more discussion, and additional discussion after that, and in the end, it would be up to the Halos to make such a policy decision. I could bring the issue up with the staff, but it'd probably be seen as too Nazi-istic of a policy.

That said, while there is no specific rule for dealing with such an issue, there's always this section of the CoC....

Quote:

Questionable actions and content

IMPORTANT NOTE: Contrary to popular beliefs, the CoC isn't designed to cover everything. We may act - issue a warning, ban your account(s) and/or IP addresses, lower your post count, delete/edit your post(s)/thread(s), etc. - if, in our judgment, you undertake any conduct that is deemed:

* Counterproductive to the forum community;
* Restricts or inhibits other users' from using or viewing any HeavenGames services, including the forums;
* In violation of any additional policies posted in the forum (usually in the form of a stickied thread, as well as in the guidelines forum) the violation was found in;
* Discrediting to yourself and/or HeavenGames in the public eye

In theory, were this flashy text trend to be deemed annoying to the point of being counterproductive to the community, we could enact and enforce a new forum policy on our own accord. But such an action would open the floor for all sorts of questions: What is inappropriate when it comes to text coding? At what point can someone be justifiably punished? What is a reasonable punishment for such a transgression? Can we justifiably outlaw this trend that some find annoying and yet allow other trends that some people might find equally annoying, such as using Internet abbreviations (ie. LOL, WTF, etc.)? And what of equality? How can we rightfully deny these people the right to express themselves, rightfully force them to conform?

It's not just a simple matter of saying, "no, you can't do that." There's some principal behind it.

To the fellow Forumers of AoM Heaven:

I offer my sincere apologies for incessantly posting in an irritating color and font. I also apologize for being a selfish, arrogant and self-centered. I hope you can forgive me for being such a person, I will stop posting in green and be a normal person; I am not anything special or anything, just a regular guy.
I hope you can forgive me.

Sincerly, Dude12345

So, Dude 12345 has removed his embellished green font, I have removed my blue font, and I would like to remind you that neither I nor Dude 12345 wished to annoy anyone, but merely to add embellishments to our text to enlighten those who read our posts. Now, although using BB code is not against the CoC, flaming is, so before more people get harassed in this thread for what they have freely chosen to do, I request that it be disgarded (although it has done some good).
